“Tonmai Baiyah”, simple Thai language for trees and grass is the name of the exhibition at 100 Tonson Gallery during June 7- July 8, 2007 by an outstanding artist Yanawit Kunchaetong.  Not only the rhyming words of Tonmai and Tonson but Yanawit Kunchaethong, the botanical artist has always emphasizes environmental issues and take into account the environment of the space when showing his work in an art exhibition.  

Paintings and prints in this exhibition have not been touched by oil, acrylic or any processed commercial paints as they are all organic and non-toxic material, a result of several years of research and experiments.   Known for the use of botanical elements in his artworks, Yanawit Kunchaetong will show his latest paintings and prints made of ebony, persimmon, white head grass, indigo, etc.    

A decade before, botanical always play important role in the artworks such as the show at Romaneenart Park (Old Khlong Prem Prison) in the collection “Bangkok: City of Fah Talai Jon/Marvels, 1998”, City on the Move, 1999, Spanish Cherry and Cow Manure, and Couple, 2000. All of these are all environment-concern artworks.

The Ministry of Science and Technology’s  The National Research Council of Thailand has recently awarded this outstanding artist “Creative Invention Awards” of the year”  for his dedicated effort in researching organic paint for using in artworks.  Yanawit will also conduct a workshop for anyone who wants to try making prints in safe environment.  

Yanawit sees that botanical are very important and being concerned with humankind, they help the earth not to be overheated, create clean air and making good environment, botanical also prevents the soil from losing its humidity etc.  With the new collection of artworks, the artist hopes that it will make people realize the value of nature more than the do at the present day.

The "Tonmai Baiyah" Botanical Art Exhibition also has Organic Print Workshop for people who are interested in. It will be held on Saturday 30 June, 2007 at 1 pm onward.
