The Village and Elsewhere by Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook at University Art Gallery, The University of Sydney

Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook 17 Mar 2014 - 03 May 2014

Venue: University Art Gallery, The University of Sydney, Sydney, Australia
Exhibition period: 17 March - 3 May 2014

The art of Araya Rasdjarmrearnsook embraces three fields: graphic art, installation including multi-channel video installations, and writing. Work through all three means speaks to how woman can be in a world and represented by her own voice. Her early work challenges recent notions of non-hand-produced visual images. The video work from the late-1990s challenges ideas about the body and Buddhist notion of mortality, as well as more recently questions of what constitutes art in relation to a popular audience, such as The Two Planets Series, 2008. Early prints will be exhibited together with two works from the Two Planets video series.

The opening reception will take place on Monday, 17 March 2014 at University Art Gallery, The University of Sydney
